Why We Worship

Why We Worship

Why worship Him?

We worship God because we feel called by God and we want to respond. When we listen to the small voice we hear the call of God.

What happens when we worship?

Worshiping God draws us near to the light of God, and when we ask Him to shine His light into our lives, we get to see more of who we are, which also reveals more of who He is.

He is, and I am not.

Lyrics from the beautiful Christmas Carol, Oh Holy Night, come to mind.
"Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the soul felt its worth".

When we come face to face with God, the source of all goodness, our soul feels the weight of its sin.
We, along with Peter the apostle, cry: "Leave me Lord, I am an unworthy sinner." Luke 5:8

We constantly feel the distance between ourselves and God.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Romans 3:23

The very thought of coming face to face with God, can reveal to us the depths of our human weakness. We can feel so uncomfortable in His presence that we are desperate to move away from Him.

When we worship from the heart in sincerity, the Light of Christ can dispel the darkness within us!

Remember, Jesus paid the price for us. His sacrifice  has come to stand as our vindicator. His blood washes away all our guilt and sin, so we don't have to walk away from God.
"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness."
1 Peter 2:24

We do not have to walk away, no matter how unbearable it is for us in the presence of God.

Instead, we can humble ourselves before Him. We can learn to trust in His promise. We can learn to rely on His mercy. We can learn to embrace the One who loves us beyond all measure.

Our Father

Then, in Worship:

We can allow ourselves be caught up in His Love.
We can allow ourselves to be drawn closer to Him.

We can accept that we are the created and that God is the creator.
We can accept the Hand of God reaching out to us.

We can ask God to come into our Hearts right now at this very moment.

We can come before him in worship and in faith with open arms ready to receive all his blessings and grace for our lives.
